    Hello!

I have been shifted here from the wonderful world of the web. Phew!

So, I am an aspiring amateur liesure shooter and I've got a Synchronex Mark 5 Super 8 that appears to be in working order. If I load 'er up with batteries she swoons and creeks but I have to ask this dubious question!...

HOW do I get this mother to give me SOUND?

It clearly says SOUND in red letters above the lense but I dont see a MIC or where I would attach one!

Please help before I continue to shoot shoddy NOIR!

"An aspiring amateur level leisure shooter" eh, I like that.

I'm not familar with that camera but there are a couple of things to look for. When you open up the film door where the film cartridge goes into the cartridge chamber, do you see a "roller" type of attachment at the bottom of the empty chamber?
This would called the sound head.

The name of the camera implies to me that it might be a "sync camera" which means it would be directly wired to an external audio recorder and the camera would regulate the running speed of the recorder whenever the camera was turne on.

The other thing to consider is that sound film is no longer made so whether or not the camera has a sound head inside the film chamber is just for educational purposes only.

Keep in mind that if you shoot film in unscripted sound environments, film can get to be expensive because you begin to let shots run just because you want the audio.

So if you desire sound with your movies, you'll need to figure out a way to attach a small portable digital recorder to the camera OR have a second camera, a video camera, recording audio for you.

Any other opinions by other posters please feel free to post them.

If the camera sounds very squealy it will need lubrication otherwise the motor can burn out in a short time and the filming speed of the camera might slow down as well, resulted in speeded up images when played back at normal speed.

Here's what I know about Synchronex:Very simple cameras, though they sport reflex viewing, manual over ride on the iris and 24fps only speed. There is a 1/4 inch jack that accomodates an umbilical to a cassette recorder. It starts and stops the recorder and puts a pulse on an unused channel of tape. Here's the rub:The way it worked, you shot film and tape and sent it to Synchronex (after processing),where they put a mag stripe on the film and transfered it to the stripe and returned your sound film.Since is Synchronex is now out of business,I have no idea how sync transfers of audio would be done.
